When: Aug 15-16, with Aug 22-23 as backup date
Distance Roundtrip: ~40 miles
Total Elevation Gain/Loss: ~9000’
Though not technically a “Climb” it will be more strenuous than many climbs that we do traveling ~40 miles round trip with ~9000’ elevation gain/loss in two days over the Timberline Trail. On day 1, we will start at Cloud Cap on the north side of Mt Hood and run counterclockwise to Timberline Lodge which is about 25 miles. Depending on what people want to do, we will stay at Timberline Lodge itself, get some space at the Mazama Lodge (cheap and close), or consider other options people may have depending on desires and cost. I will discuss this with those interested. After a relaxing evening, we will then get up on day 2 and continue around the east side of Mt Hood for about 15 miles back to Cloud Cap. We will not need any technical gear for this trip and since we don’t have to camp, we can stay pretty light. I am expecting that we will jog any sections that are safely runnable and hike everything else. The jogging paces will be fairly slow. Hiking paces will be brisk.
Qualifications:
Experience trail running; should be able to complete a 20-something mile run with elevation change without killing yourself.
Must be a solid power hiker (need to be able to hike briskly up and down hill)
