Unicorn Peak (M1) -- CANCELED

(Due to conditions/weather, not taking place. Leader will attempt to reschedule in June)

Unicorn Peak is the tallest peak in the Tatoosh Range offering a moderate round-trip 1-day climb that provides commanding views of Mount Rainier. In early season, it is a good mix of hiking, snow travel (including, hopefully a nice glissade on the way down), and low 5th class technical rock climbing. (Chemeketan Climb Classification of M1) The views of Mount Rainier from the summit are breathtaking but to the south you can also see Mount Adams, Mount St. Helens and on a very clear day, Mount Hood! The approach for this climb typically starts at the Snow Lake trailhead, but Stevens Canyon Road isn't expected to open until May 27th. This will add 6 miles of road walking to the approach. The good news is that this should limit the typical crowds for this popular early season climb. I'm looking to assemble a team of 8, and hope to reserve at least 4 spots for 1st year climbers. Preferences will be made for those that attend Intermediate Snow Skills on 5/1/22. Also be looking for an assistant. Contact Michael Gurley (michael.gurley67@gmail.com) to be placed on the list of interested persons, or if you have questions about the climb. A detailed prospectus will be available by the end of March.
Final team composition will be made the first week of May. More information about the climb can be found at: https://www.summitpost.org/unicorn-peak/151196 The actual day of the climb (21st or 22nd) will be determined in the prospectus.
