Champoeg Townsite Trail Loop Hike
We will hike some of Oregon's history where the historic meeting took place in 1843 when settlers met to determine the fate of the Oregon Territory. We will start at the visitor's center and follow a paved path to the monument where the meeting took place. There we will follow a dirt trail along the river. The 567-acre park is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Western Bluebird. We will return to the visitor's center for lunch and a look at the exhibits. Next we will visit the Newell House Museum. As a finale we will visit the historic Butteville Store for refreshments. We will need drivers and each car must bring a park pass. There is a $6 fee for the Newell Museum ($5 for seniors). Bring lunch, water, good shoes or boots, other essentials, rain gear, money, and a smile.
