Our route will be somewhat dependent on weather, but the hike always begins on a gravel road. We’ll plan to hike a clockwise loop using Shellburg Creek and August Mountain trails after passing Shellburg Falls and the campground. We’ll hope for one of those clear winter days, but be prepared for the possibility of rain and also mud in some areas. Wear boots with good tread and hiking poles are helpful. This route is somewhat more than the listed 740 ft. elevation gain, but not by much.
