Smith Rock State Park

When it is still cool and wet in the Valley, there is a good chance it will be warm and dry at Smith Rock. We will hike 2 miles along the Crooked River at the base of the towering cliffs of Smith Rock. We will hike past Monkey Face and up a ridge (not Misery Ridge) to join the Summit Trail. Here we will have panoramic views of the Crooked River Gorge and Cascade peaks from Mt. Hood to the Three Sisters. We will find a suitably scenic lunch spot before continuing the loop down the old Burma Rd grade down to the river. We may see golden eagles and other birds along the cliffs and river. Hopefully bitterroot and other wildflowers will be blooming on the ridge. We will stop in Terrebone for refreshments. Bring plenty of food and water and plan on a long day.
