The Rooster Rock side of Table Rock Wilderness remains completely undiscovered. Our 11 hikers had the entire trail to ourselves! Rooster Rock meadow was a mass of color, mostly a type of sunflower accompanied by others of every color.
Our watches and phones told us that we hiked only 6.5 miles, we all agreed that it felt like more. This was probably because of the very steep sections which earned our way to the ridge and the view point. We were delighted that the shade and breeze made the warm day extremely comfortable. The rock scramble to the basalt plug was no problem for this skookum group. We could see mountains from Rainier to the Sisters as well as Marys Peak to the west. For our lunch, we followed the ridge farther through 2 other rocky meadows. The bear grass was early this year, so it was well faded.
To celebrate our great day, we stopped at River Brewing in Molalla for beverages and root beer floats.
Enjoying the day were: Mike Halbert (his first hike with the club), Nancy Tucek, Nadene LeCheminant, Martin Doerfler, Hilda Rueda, Pam Thomas, Ann Adamcik, Sumon Montri, Nanci Chambers, Mary Liepins and Mary Coleman, leader.
