Because of heat and sun-exposed hiking trail on Bachelor, we decided to do an exploratory hike to Oregon's newest state park property: Abiqua Falls above Scotts Mills.
This trail is not for everyone! Not only is the access road HORRIBLE, the steep trail down to the creek level involves a series of rope belays. This group of skilled adventurers managed the challenges with smiles.
We sensibly opted to park nearly 2 miles above the trailhead and walk the "road" to the trail.
After a clambering trail along creek, we got our first view of the amazing bowl of columnar basalt with the 90 foot waterfall. We lunched at the pool's edge and watched the young folks pose for Instagram pix.
After belaying ourselves back up to the road and heading up the hill to the car, Joanne and I thumbed a ride in the back of a pickup. The others opted to walk. When was the last time I hitchhiked?? Fun.
