Great success on your lead, Chris, and
congrats to all for the summit! Good rebound effort for Patrick.
I've alway enjoyed Glacier peak immensely as it's one of the
volcanoes that retains an aura of remoteness and makes you work
to achieve the summit, despite its relatively forgiving nature
in terms of not being too technical. It's hard to get to and, if
you can do the approach, you can do the climb. Much like for Mt
Olympus, you climb virtually the entire mountain, given the low
trailhead elevation along the N Fork Sauk river.
I recognize a lot of the terrain and, in
these times of changing climate, it's disconcerting to notice
the lack of snow even at the higher elevations. Where you
camped, presumably somewhere in the flats between crossing from
the Foam Creek cutoff and Glacier gap, there used to be the
White Chuck glacier which covered much of the area. These days
it's reverted to a rocky moonscape pockmarked with residual
tarns.
