Strawberry Lakes Backpack
About this event
The original destination of this backpack was the Elkhorn Crest trail; however, prospective participants have indicated a preference for a less strenuous hike. This alternative loop hike is shorter and has less elevation gain.
The Strawberry mountain wilderness is not as well known as the nearby Wallowas, but has many of the same features: alpine meadows , pristine lakes, sweeping views, rugged granitic peaks. This area is, however, less trafficked than its sister range. The loop itself is 13.7 miles; with recommended side trips, 17.5 miles total. The pace will be moderate. We can easily do this loop in four days, including travel, or five days if we want to set up a base camp and explore.
