North Sister - Southeast Ridge (R2 / Grade IV) -- CANCELED

About this event

Team members must be in great shape and comfortable scrambling un-roped across 3rd and 4th class terrain.

Saturday will begin at the Pole Creek trailhead at 4:00 AM.
We’ll hike south past Soap Creek, then continue south past North Sister witnessing the destruction from the 2012 Pole Creek forest fire by the light of our headlamps.  A mile after the Soap Creek crossing, we will reenter the unburned forest that was spared the 2012 fire. Within a mile after that we will come across the “Climber’s Trail” junction that is used to gain access to both Middle and North Sisters.  We’ll take the climber’s trail and hike due west towards the basin that holds the Hayden Glacier on Middle Sister. As we near timberline, we will veer off-trail to our right (north) and gain the SE ridge of North Sister.  We’ll continue up the SE ridge until we come to the “terrible traverse” where might fix a rope across, depending on the conditions and available anchors to gain access to the “bowling alley”. Once in the bowling alley, depending on the strength and capabilities of the team, we may either free climb to the summit or we will fix a  rope to gain access to the summit. On the descent, a rappel rope will be used to descend the Bowling Alley. We will reverse the route to get back to the cars.
