West McMillan Spire (M3)
Primary Dates: August 21-25 (drive up Weds eve)
Backup Dates: August 28-September 1 (drive up Weds eve)
Applicants must be able to drive up Weds eve and be ready for an early Thursday start. If weather allows, the climb will be Thurs-Sat, returning home late Sat eve. If needed, we will climb Fri-Sun instead. Preference will be given to applicants who are available for both the primary and backup dates.
The Pickets are notorious for demanding approaches that often include a healthy dose of bushwhacking. West McMillan Spire is probably the "easiest" approach of them all, with very little bushwhacking and a mere 7.5 miles and 5900 feet of elevation gain to reach camp, haha. On summit day my watch recorded another 2500 feet of gain in 2.3 miles.
Climbers with strong legs and lungs, and the confidence to do some exposed Class 3 scrambling, are welcome to apply.
