Backpack Training Hike -- Silver Falls State Park Back Country
About this event
I’m looking to do some backpacking trips on the Timberline Trail this summer and want to see if anyone in the club is interested in training this winter. Proposed dates: 1/11 (completed), 1/25 (completed), 2/8 (completed), 2/22 (completed), 3/8 (completed) and 3/15. I will hike this series with a pack, but all are welcome (pack or no pack).
This sixth hike is COMPLETE OUTER LOOP: Howard Creek Trailhead to 214 Trail to Newt Loop to Catamount Trail to Perimeter Trail to Canyon Trail to Bike Path to Nature Trail to 214 Trail, return to Howard Creek Trailhead. NOTE EARLIER LEAVING TIME. Group leaves promptly at 8:30am. Headlamp and/or flashlight required.
These are at-your-own risk events but obviously we will look out for everyone and leave no one behind. Carry 2-4 liters of water, winter layers, rain/snow gear, head lamp, map, first aid supplies, emergency shelter, lunch, snacks, directions to trailhead, sandals for fording creek (Jan. 25, Feb. 22 and Mar. 8). I am wilderness first aid trained and carry a satellite communicator.
Difficulty: Medium
Driving distance 46 miles RT.
