Climb Workshop - Belaying from Above

About this event

The goal of this ½ day workshop (9am – 2pm) is to review and practice the most common methods of belaying from above.   Topics will include the pros, and cons for the following

  1. Belaying from your harness directly.
  2. Belaying from your harness with an indirect
  3. Belaying from the anchor using a Gri-Gri.
  4. Lowering from the anchor using a Gri-Gri
  5. Setting up a tube device (BD ATC, Petzl Reverso, etc.) in guide mode.
  6. Lowering someone safely from guide mode.
  7. Setting up a mechanical advantage system while belaying from the anchor.

The above techniques will first be demonstrated and then we will then get some hands-on practice while under the watchful eye of experienced climbers. We will be climbing at Owl slab which is a small 50-foot slab near Mary’s Peak and has around eight sport routes.

I am caping the group size to 6 students.  If the weather does not allow us to safely climb, the event will be rescheduled.
