This trip is intended to be both fun and educational. We will be hiking an easy 3.5 miles from the trailhead to Sisters Mirror Lake, where we will establish a base camp. This portion of the Three Sisters Wilderness is studded with numerous high lakes, many of which are off trail. We will spend a couple of days exploring this wilderness area occasionally traveling off-trail, “staying found” at all times, navigating both with map and compass as well as using modern GPS devices. The goal is to become comfortable traveling anywhere, using the tools we have available, and instill confidence that we will not get lost. We may even try some night time navigation. The co-leaders are encouraging attendees to review their navigating skills prior to the trip. Bring your map and compass along with a GPS device, if you have one, along with lots of questions.
