The south side of Mt Hood is typically climbed in a single push, but given the anticipated Memorial Day weekend crowds we will be camping on the mountain to get an extra early start on summit day.
Please review the
detailed prospectus before applying.
Applicants are expected to have completed at least one snow climb that involved crampons on steep snow, preferably with the club (e.g. Unicorn Peak, Mt. Adams South Side, Mt. St. Helens). Priority will be given to applicants who meet this requirement and have not yet climbed Mt. Hood and/or have been actively involved in volunteering at club events. All applicants must be available for the entire 4-day window of May 22-25 (Fri-Mon) to ensure weather flexibility.
This climb will involve carrying overnight gear 3000 feet up the mountain, camping on snow, and a summit day pace (with smaller packs) of roughly 800-1000 feet per hour. The prospectus describes expected climbing skills in detail.
To apply, please send your climbing resume (or a summary of your relevant climbing experience) and a description of your current training program and fitness to the leader, Shonee Langford, at shoneelangford@gmail.com.
I will accept applications through Sunday, May 10th, and announce the team on Monday, May 11th.
