Sitka Sedge / Clay Smith Natural Area
About this event
Let's go to the beach! Sitka Sedge is an Oregon State Park South of Tillamook featuring undeveloped coastal scenery including tidal flats, saltwater marshes, forested wetlands and dunes. The hiking trail is an approximately four-mile loop, nearly flat.
After the Sedge, (excellent bathrooms BTW) we'll have lunch and drive north a short way to the Clay Myers Natural Area, one of Oregon's newest state parks. It's a virtually untouched coastal eco system that could have been, I've been told, a golf course but for the efforts of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the parks board and 2.8 million dollars which came, in part, from the lottery. The hike here is short but beautiful. Perfect for oohing, awwing and enjoying an Oregon summer day.
