We started at the beautiful Italian Renaissance inspired Union Station and took the pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks to the Willamette Greenway where we walked south to Tom McCall Waterfront park. Then we headed away from the river past the Skidmore Fountain and into the Old Town/China Town districts. We studied some of the artifacts in those areas and then walked through the North Park Blocks to the heart of the Pearl District near Powell’s Books and took a coffee break at Peet’s. We continued north and east from there into the NW 13th Avenue Historic District with its characteristic warehouse buildings and loading docks. Then we cut under I-405 and entered Slabtown where we had a fantastic lunch at Besaw’s (yum!). After lunch we headed over to trendy NW 23rd and had ice cream for dessert at Salt and Straw (double yum!) before ending our day. Participants were guests Jane Perry and Lori Steffens and members Sylvia Dawson, Suzy Overturf, Patty Schaffers, Greda van Veen, Corriene Thompson, Marcia Hoak and leader Carol Soderberg.
