Sixteen of us traversed Bush Park and the lovely Fairmount Hills neighborhood of Salem, enjoying the rain-free day, the yard art, and the plants. We can sing, too! We made an unannounced short stop at the home of longtime Chemeketans Lela and Wilbur Jackson. Lela had a stroke several years ago and is in a wheelchair. We sang three Christmas carols for her, and she joined in. (Yes, 16 surprise guests do fit into the Jacksons’ small kitchen.) Lela asked us to “go hike for her.” Patty Baskin was on her first Chemeketan walk, and Nancy Warnicke completed her second qualifying activity. Members were Janet Templar, Marvin Doerfler, Jane Maute, Mary Liepins, Don Gallagher, Blank Truneckova, Bev Hassell, Rosanna Wilson, Franca Hernandez, Trish Rissitto, Gene Picard, Roz Shirack, Carol Doolittle, and leader Elizabeth Seibert.
