Seven Chemeketans hit the trail in the Old Cascades on a sunny day. Joy was in the air to be back on the trail! Bobbie Snead has always led this hike, so I did my best to usher us up and down the 8 mile hike.
The usual flowers were in sorry supply thanks to our hot and dry summer, but we found some lovely lilies and lots of mountain azalea. A few huckleberries were scavenged.
At the top, we met a ranger who told us they were closing the area in case the fire to southeast blew up. (we saw no smoke). We hurried through lunch and beat feet out as they closed the trail and road behind us.
Feeling victorious were long time Chemeks : Marcia Kenagy, Randy Selig, Tim Taylor, Marianne Gardner, Stephen Gram, Becky Hickox, Dan Moung and Mary Coleman, leader.
