On a cool and lovely early fall morning a group of six of us met at 9:00 a.m. McDonald Forest's Peavy Arboretum parking lot to hike the Calloway Creek Trail with the addition of a spur trail to Cronemiller Lake. A well-maintained trail wound through pretty woods in a 3.5 mile loop bringing us to a 1 mile round trip out and back trail to the picturesque Cronemiller Lake where we picnicked at a table along the lake edge. Hundreds of tiny green frogs splashed as they hopped into the lake as we passed by. When we returned to our cars we enjoyed slices of cake as our reward. The congenial hikers included Jane Maute, Margarita Nunez, Bev Hassel, Margaret Saxe, Jill Wilson and the leader.
