God's Thumb Hike

We did God's Thumb on the coast after Stahlman Point trail didn't open as expected by Detroit ranger district. On a day with temperatures in the 90's in the valley it was the cool choice. We were serenaded by Swainsons Thrush along the way as identified by Susan's bird app. It wasn't the fastest pace as there were a lot of stops to pick Salmonberries and ID flowers. We had a special treat when we were able to spot whales from the high meadow above the Thumb. Views of the coast were spectacular. On our return trip we stopped at a cherry stand in Grand Ronde. Hikers were Susan Proffitt, Larry Fromdahl, Allen King, and John Huff ldr.
