A successful trip with one leader and six students started at the Upper Trail Head of the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail and ended at Frizzel boat launch 19 miles later. We were required to reroute for 2.5 miles due to fire damage but otherwise the trail was in good condition. We enjoyed perfect weather, and the only crowds were on the stretch between the Blue Pool trail head and Blue Pool. Everyone enjoyed the first backpack of the season, and for some, their first backpack ever! We ended with a nice soak in the wild hot springs at Deer Creek on Sunday morning before finishing the hike out.
