Shotgun Creek- July 10, 2023

Beverly Hassell | Published on 7/13/2023
Shotgun Creek is a gated park and when we arrived at 8:45 the gate was locked. The sign on the gate stated that it opened at 9:00 but it did not. Thankfully a very helpful and friendly ranger discovered us waiting at the unopened gate and made it his mission to get us into the park. So after a minor delay, while the ranger worked diligently, we were in the park. First we hiked Drury Ridge which has some nice elevation but not much of a view considering it’s called a ridge trail. Next we did Shotgun Creek where we walked along the creek and also discovered some Ghost Pipe/Plant or Monotropa uniflora (see photo). It was an eventful day, encountering a locked gate and seeing a rare plant! Hikers were Steve Williams, Mary Liepins, Eileen Harder and leader Bev Hassell.
