Metolius River Trail Hike – October 8, 2023

We had a gorgeous fall day for our hike up the west side of the Metolius River. The changing colors of the river and the white water kept our attention on the river, but the yellow and red foliage along the trail was also appreciated. The highlight was the seven or eight large springs gushing from the far bank into the River. A number of fly fishers standing in the River and along the bank also added to the scenic tableau. After the hike we stopped at the 1917 Camp Sherman Store for refreshments and to linger by the side of the River a while longer. On the way back we stopped to view the headwaters of the Metolius. It was rather anticlimactic after seeing those gushing springs, but a must see for Chris, our new Chemeketan and Oregonian. Hikers were Chris Bataille, Ken Ash, and leader Roz Shirack.
