Chemeketans Marcia Hoak, Darlene Beyerle, Becky Hickox (ldr), and guest Ruth Holme had a lovely day immersed in Oregon history. We started with a detailed tour of the McLoughlin House then walked to the municipal elevator where a docent filled us in on the history of this unique elevator as well as other parts of Oregon City. From there we walked the McLoughlin Promenade with good views of the Willamette Falls, the river, and the industry that has grown up around all that water power. At the Highland Stillhouse we enjoyed a delicious lunch of pasties then went next door to the Museum of the Oregon Territory with many interesting exhibits and a film about the area. One of the takeaways of the day was a better understanding of the ongoing controversy surrounding the future of the Falls.
