Climb School 2022
Ellen Gradison

Dear Chemeketan Climbing Community,

As we all eagerly look forward to reinstituting Climb School in the coming year, the Climbing Committee feels it is important to communicate some upcoming changes to what is, without a doubt, one of the critical events to the climbing group. The changes

Composition of the Climb School Coordinating Team

Chemeketan Climb School, starting in 2022, will be planned and executed by four (4) cooperative volunteer positions:

  • Logistical Lead - Billy Bob Davis
  • Classroom Lead - TBD
  • Rock Day Lead - Erin Dubuc
  • Snow Day Lead - TBD

The detailed Roles & Responsibilities for these four positions will be defined over time, by a small working group of interested persons, subject matter experts, and those that have been directly involved in comparable roles in past Climb Schools.

Oversight by Climbing Committee

The Coordinating Team will be expected to run any significant changes or key decisions (including, but not limited to: dates, venues, schedule, major publicity, costs incurred, fees, etc.) regarding Climb School by the full Climbing Committee. The Climbing Committee has final decision-making authority in these matters and any decisions by the Committee will be communicated by the Co-Chairs to the members of the Climb School Coordinating Team.

Coordination and Documentation

To ensure that key Climb School materials, documented decisions, and communications are available for the use of future members of the Climb School Coordinating Team, a repository will be set-up for the purpose of storage and transfer of these materials. The Climb School Coordinating Team and the Climbing Committee will both have access to these materials.

COVID-related Safety Practices

For the health and safety of the participants and volunteers of Climb School, the Climbing Committee and the Climb School Coordinating Team will work together with the Chemeketan Council to determine what modifications may need to take place to the various Climb School events, to minimize potential transmission of COVID.

It is understood that this process will take some time, but it is important for the long-term viability of Climb School. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through these changes. Climb School has been and will continue to be the success that it has been due to the contributions and hard work of ALL the volunteers that dedicate their time and talents to it.

Sincerely,

The Climbing Committee

Billy Bob
Hey folks,

I just wanted to share that this was news to me. I don't intend on doing much differently than years prior but for being even better than years prior and have had no intent of stepping down.

I've been in communication regularly with climb leadership though stay tuned, just know that I don't need help in coordination and planning of Climb School, though I greatly appreciate everyone's willingness to commit to fill the much needed roles that I do ask for each year.

Respectfully,
Billy Bob

Dear Chemeketan Climbers,

The Climbing Committee realizes that there may be some concern and/or confusion about the recent announcement concerning changes to climb school. Further discussions are underway and additional information is forthcoming as soon as it is available and appropriate. We appreciate your patience as this moves forward.

It should be made clear that no request has been made by the Committee for anyone connected with climb school to step down.

Changes are often difficult and we will all do our best to ensure that they are implemented in a fair and thoughtful manner.

Sincerely,

The Climbing Committee
