Chemeketan Climbing Awards

The purpose of the Chemeketan climbing award system is to recognize those members possessed of the stamina, will power, and enterprise necessary to climb to the top of a difficult mountain.

Summit certificates may be presented to all persons attaining the summit of a difficult mountain on a scheduled Chemeketan climb. The climbing Committee Chair is responsible for determining whether a particular climb is sufficiently difficult to earn a summit certificate.

  • A climber’s first ascent of any of the 18 Northwest Peaks
  • Climbing all three of the Santiam Area Peaks (Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, Three-Fingered Jack)
  • Climbing all three of the Guardian Peaks of the Columbia (Mt. Hood, St. Helens, Mt. Adams)
  • Climbing all of the nine Oregon Peaks on the list of the 18 Northwest Peaks
  • Climbing all eighteen of the 18 Northwest Peaks

A member wishing to receive a Chemeketan climbing award must apply to the Climbing Committee Chair and must submit proofs of climbs such as summit certificates or Club Bulletin listings.

All climbs applied toward a Chemeketan climbing award must be scheduled Chemeketan climbs except for the 18 Peak Award for which up to six of the climbs may be made under the auspices of a fellow Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs (FWOC) member club.

A distinctive award and patch, to be displayed as the member wishes, shall be awarded to members who have climbed the designated 18 Northwest Peaks.
