The Illinois River is reported to be “even wilder” than the nearby Rogue River. This trip is intended to be an out and back up the Illinois River and into some of an unburned portion of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness while we’re still in the spring wildflower season. The mileages are moderate but there is a fair amount of up and down. The trail could be rough in spots. Trip itinerary: Day 1, Illinois River West Trailhead to Indigo Creek, 4 1/2 mi +900 ft. Day 2, we’ll day hike up river at least as far as Silver Creek and perhaps somewhat further if things are looking good, then back. About 9 mi +1200 ft. Day 3, back out to the Trailhead and head home.
