Sitka Sedge State Natural Area

Explore one of Oregon’s last intact coastal estuaries, and one of the least crowded beaches on the coast. We will follow two loop trails through shore pine woods, Sitka sedge forest, marshlands and meadows. We’ll also cross dunes and enjoy a long beach walk with views of Cape Lookout and Haystack Rock. Part of the beach walk will be on wet sand, to respect the nesting season of the threatened snowy plover. Walking barefoot is a great way to explore this beach. The park is home to an elk herd and more than 43 species of birds, so bring binoculars if you wish. We will wander at a relaxing pace. This area is the ancestral homeland of the Nestucca Tillamook Indians, who are now part of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
