Advanced Snow Skills

This is an opportunity for climbers who are looking to assist on a club led climb as an assistant or just to be a more educated climb team member. Topics of discussion for the day will include but are not limited to: Snow anchors/belays refresher, Rope team setup and management, z-pully refresher, basic on the fly avalanche assessment techniques, and winter camping/emergency shelter construction. Since this is a training exercise, and we are not venturing too far off the Palmer snowfield this trip will still go in less than perfect weather. Participants are expected to assist with the Intermediate Snow Skills course the following day.

Prerequisites: This weekend training is open to participants who have previously participated in Intermediate Snow Skills or have equivalent experience (Leader discretion). Participants are expected to know how to belay another climber and rappel using a belay device of their choice, use common climbing language and know how to tie basic climbing knots. Knowledge of basic snow anchors, and rope team set up are highly recommended.
