Ice Lake Backpack, Eagle Cap Wilderness

This backpacking trip is scheduled during the first week of the Chemeketan Outing. We will be starting the Wallowa Lake Trailhead and hiking 7.7 miles to beautiful Ice Lake where we will camp for two nights with the Mountain Goats. During the second day, depending on the weather, we will hike to the top of the Matterhorn, the highest mountain in the Eagle Cap Wilderness and explore the area around the lake. There is a trail all the way to the top of the Matterhorn and the hike is non- technical. Limited to eight people including the trip leader. Preference will be given to those members attending the Outing.

Difficulty: Medium

Driving distance 60 miles RT from Wallowa.

Hiking distance 25.4 miles RT.

Elevation gain 3393 feet.
