Salmon River Backpack


It’s Spring and time to get out our backpacking gear and do a “Walk in the Woods”. We will be traveling to the Salmon/ Huckleberry Wilderness, southwest of Mt. Hood, near Zigzag, Oregon. This is an out and back lower elevation hike, below 3,000 ft., so hopefully we will avoid the snowpack, but a chance to get out and about before the bugs are in attack mode. This is a popular trail and is scheduled for the weekend, so expect to share the trail, depending on the weather. Things are likely to still be muddy and wet, so dress appropriately Limited to eight people including the trip leader.  

Difficulty: Medium  

Driving distance 168 miles RT.

Hiking distance 10 miles RT.

Elevation gain 2047 feet.
