Indian Heaven Lakes Loop Backpack

This backpacking trip will take us into the heart of the Indian Heaven wilderness in southwestern Washington, a magical land of extinct volcanic craters with more than one hundred alpine lakes. The loop will take us past about a dozen of these, including some of the most scenic lakes in this wilderness. Likely we will find ripe blueberries and huckleberries this time of year, as did the indigenous peoples who once inhabited this region. Limited to eight hikers.

Driving distance: 250 miles RT from Salem

Hiking distance: 14 mile loop

Elevation gain: 2150 feet
