This backpack takes us into the high country of the Strawberry Mountains near John Day, Oregon. We will visit several mountain lakes and climb Strawberry Peak. Expect exceptional scenery, wildflowers and butterflies.
There is not a set itinerary for this trip. We have five days, 20 to 30 miles of trail, four mountain lakes, innumerable meadows and at least one mountain to climb. We will take our time to explore the area. What we find will determine our itinerary.
The weather is likely to be good, but be prepared for cold nights -- camps are at around 7,000 feet -- and for the possibility of rain or snow. This backpack is rated medium. Moderate pace.
