This trip is looking better than ever. What was originally billed to be an impassible landslide on the trail now looks like it is actually to be a rough spot on a day hike that should take us past some interesting geology and into the Kalmiopsis Wilderness a bit. Trip itinerary: Day 1, Illinois River West Trailhead to Indigo Creek, + 900 ft, 4 1/2 mi. Day 2, we’ll day hike up river as far as reasonable, most likely a bit past Silver Creek then back, + 1200 ft, 9 mi. Day 3, pack back to the Illinois River Trailhead then move over to the Lower Rogue River Trailhead and backpack to Painted Rock Creek, +1200 ft, 7 1/2 mi. Day 4, pack out, +200 ft, 3 mi. Difficulty: Hard Driving distance: around 500 miles RT. Hiking distance: around 24 miles RT. Elevation gain: around 3500 feet. Qualifying Activity: Yes
