Eight Chemeketan hikers left the 214 trailhead at Silver Falls State Park and walked the Catamount trail to the Smith Creek trail and returned to the trailhead by going up the Rabbit Hole. It was a glorious fall day with lots of laughter and good camaraderie. The upper Catamount trail is closed due to last year’s fires but the trail connecting the Catamount to the Smith Creek Trail provides a bit of a glimpse into the fringe zone where the fire was halted. A hearty thanks to those who fought the blaze.
