Salem History/Architectural Walk

Debra C Dawes | Published on 11/7/2021
Sixteen members and guests ignored the poor weather forecast and walked 5-6 miles through Salem discovering buildings from the late 1800's-early 1900's designed or built by architect Walter Pugh (the father of the leader's late neighbor Katherine Pugh Schwabauer who died at age  106).  Mr. Pugh was responsible for the Capitol Dome on the former Capitol, which burned down in 1935, the "J" Building at the State Hospital, Gadke Hall on the Willamette campus, which was formerly the Salem Post Office, the Grand Theater and the building which now houses Salem Summit, to name a few.  Members included: Roz Shirack, Laurie Walcutt, Julia Westerberg, Nancy McDaniel, Marcia Hoak, Michelle Litke, Nanci Chambers, Renee Littlefield, Mary Hughes, Debra Driscoll,  Chris Shank and guests Lorraine Milan, Michael Collins, Kari Collins, Lori Tomscha and leader Debra Dawes. By the way, the rain and wind were not nearly as bad as predicted-we were very lucky!
