Marion Mountain Hike − June 7, 2022

Updated to reflect the accidental mushroom misidentification in the earlier version of this trip report

Seven determined hikers enjoyed a warm and mostly sunny day at Marion Lake. We started up the mountain on the Blue Lake Trail, handling some deep and soft snow in the rocky section near the outlet bridge, but we were stopped at the junction with Pine Ridge Trail, where the snow was extensive, and we could not see the trail at all. Instead, we returned to the lake, walked the shore and had lunch on the peninsula, and circled back to visit Marion Falls, very heavy with water and beautiful.

Highlights included trillium,  calypso orchids, false-morel mushrooms (not edible!), and many tiny frogs migrating across the trail. Hikers included Randy Judson, Elaine Kruger-Young, Joanne Schiedler, Roz Shirack, Yelena Spivak, Susan Wilson, and leader Mady Kimmich.
