On Sunday, June 26, a group of 8 Chemeketan climbers met in the parking lot at the Snow Lake trailhead in Mount Rainier National Park and geared up to climb Unicorn Peak. This was a reschedule of a failed attempt to organize a Unicorn climb a month earlier. Crazy amounts of snow and bad weather resulted in unreliable park road accessibility and unreasonable conditions for what was mostly a team of recent climb school graduates. Spirits were high and smiles were evident all around. None of the team had been up Unicorn Peak before, so the shared excitement of what lay ahead was apparent in the trailhead chatter. Five of the team were 2022 Climb School graduates and for four of them, this would be their first club climb. The weather cooperated and all summited successfully.
