Northbank Habitat Reserve

While it was a bit of a drive exploring this area off the Umpqua River was well worth it. The hike had a listed Elevation gain of 1100 feet almost all of it came in a steep mile of trail. The reserve designated as white tail deer habitat is mostly oak savannah with open ridge tops with spectacular views. We saw the largest Madrona tree any of us had seen measuring a good four feet through at the base. We completed the loop by returning on the Old Barn trail making the hike about five miles. On our way home we stopped at the iconic drive in in Rice Hill for ice cream. Hikers were Zha and Ken Ash, Jason McHuff, Tom Burke, and John Huff ldr.
