Pine Ridge-September 10, 2023

Seven hikers headed out on a new trail (for 5) into an unburned piece of the Jefferson Wilderness.  The foot-friendly trail through pines and huckleberries (with fruit and lovely fall color), made the 10 miles fly by.  We summitted Marion Mountain in time for lunch with a view of Jeff, Jack and Marion Lake.

We saw 2 pairs of bow hunters and 6 other hikers.  Hunters had no kills, but one pair regaled us with their story of watching a pair of cougars mating!  They heard the screaming and "foreplay" and observed for a half an hour through their spotting scope. They showed us video they took "after the act".  They estimated they were about a mile away.  The female finished the act with a whack at the male's head!  Such excitement!

Enjoying a perfect autumn day were: Sumon Montri, Roz Shirack, Minah DeAinzaKen Ash, Marcia Kenagy, Eileen Harder and Mary Coleman, leader.
