Buck Mountain Trail (whoops!) − March 8, 2024: led by Nadene LeCheminant

We lucked out with one of the most beautiful days of the winter! Two mysterious snow creatures at the trailhead must have blessed the nine hikers as we started up Buck Mountain. The snowy winter wonderland and blue sky were so entrancing that the fearless leader took a wrong turn, following footprints in the snow down to Roemer’s Meadow, rather than up the untracked trail to the Buck Mountain junction. Bev assured us that no hike leader is disqualified unless they come back with more than ten percent of the group missing, and so we kept going. Our final destination was a beautiful primeval forest with deep, dark trees and hanging moss.

All of us made it back in happy spirits and warmed up over lunch at the Big Leaf Coffeehouse & Grill. Martin eloquently summed up our experience with, “Oh frabjous day, caloo, calay! And not a frumious bandersnatch to be seen!” I appreciate the good humor and understanding of Darlene Beyerle, Martin Doerfler, Mark Ferguson, Eileen Harder, Beverly Hassell, Becky Hickox, Sumon Montri and Roz Shirack. Their confused leader was Nadene LeCheminant, who is leading the same hike next month for anyone foolish enough to sign up.
