This excellent hike, with many wildflowers, passes three mountain lakes. We then go off-trail to climb Red Butte. Great views of Jefferson, Jack, Three Sisters. A likely stop to swim on the walk back. Please sign up by 7/20 so leader can get permit.
Climb will be 3 days. Climbers must reserve the full Wed-Sun range. We need flexibility on acquiring overnight permits that are available 7 days before along with potential for weather/conditions to shift. The hope is that we go Wed-Fri but will shift as needed if we don’t get the needed permit.

The trail goes fairly steeply through forest and open meadows, with a rocky scramble to the summit. Lots of wildflowers and fine views. Always the possibility of some downed trees in the lower section.

Come climb Diamond Peak from Rockpile Trail. This is a nontechnical scramble. The summit is spectacular and offers views of the rest of Diamond Peak‘s arms and huge views of the entire Oregon Cascades.
A strenuous 3-day climb into the Pickets Range in North Cascades National Park
Short but challenging hike to a rocky, view-filled pinnacle.
Come to Dallas for a bird walk on another section of the Rickreall Creek Trail System, this time on the West-end of the trail. We will start at Kingsborough Park, joining up with the RCTS, walk past Meadow Creek Village, and join back on the RCTS on a paved path along the shaded riparian area of Rickreall Creek. Approximate mileage is two miles out and back. Be sure to bring binoculars and your smartphone. We will be demonstrating use of the Merlin phone app to identify bird songs. Meet at 8:00AM. Parking is street-side at Kingsborough Park on SW Wyatt Street.

Easy first section past Lake Ann to Marion Lake, with short side trip to see Marion Falls, then steady steep grade through old burn to the peak, with beautiful views of Mt. Jefferson and Three-Fingered Jack. Likely stop for swimming on return leg. Please register by 8/10 so leader can get permits.

We will hike around Clear Lake, through forest and over lava flows. The trail crosses a bridge over the headwaters of the McKenzie River. The blue and turquoise colors of the lake are stunning. The red vine maple and other fall colors add to the beauty of this lake. After having lunch lakeside, we will complete the loop, then drive a short distance to Sahalie Falls and do the short hike down to the falls. Covid vaccinations are required. Bring a face mask for carpooling if the driver requests that.
Note: Clear Lake is at the edge of a closed area due to the Lookout fire. If it is still smokey in that area, or Clear Lake is not accessible, we will do a substitute hike.
Powell Butte is an extinct cinder cone volcano and the Nature Park consists of 600 acres.
